CAGE AND PEN CULTURE OF FISH PRODUCTION AS A MEANS OF YOUTH EMPLOYMENT, AFOWO- BADAGRY

Project Brief

The project is designed to utilize the abundance water bodies in the State for sustainable fish production while crating employment opportunities for youths

Project Objectives

The project is designed to provide fish cages of size 4mx2m each, supporting infrastructure including stocking and management for the empowerment of  women and youths. This is in addition to the 40 women and youths who have been supported in previous intervention

EXPECTED OUTPUT

  1.  Provision of 70 units fish cages                                        
  2. Provision of floating walkway , antipredator/cage barrier system for the  70 fish cages and floating store/surveillance post                          
  3. Provision of capacity building for 70 women and youth in cage construction, stocking and management.                
  4.  Empowerment of the 70 women and youths (with cages,1,000  fish juveniles each,  fish feed and allowances for 4 months)

EXPECTED IMPACT

  1.  Production of additional 113.4 tonnes of fish per annum                                         
  2. Expand the utilization of open water bodies for fish culture thereby reducing the pressure on upland areas for aquaculture projects.                             
  3. Promote livelihood sustenance of beneficiaries                         
  4. Stimulate economic activities in the project community               
  5. Promote the culture of other species of fish such as Tilspis Spp against the culture of catfish.
