Project Brief
The Lagos Food Production Centre is an upgrade of the Moribund Agricultural Youth Empowerment Scheme, Songhai Model. The concept is designed as an Integrated Cluster Model that combines different agro food production, maximises operational synergy, economy of scales and income generation activities for the host community and the State in general.
Project Objectives
- To encourage organic farming using simple biological methods to enhance outputs and boost food production.
- To transform agriculture in the State to commercial and export –oriented production.
- To generate huge employment for the youth.
- To improve the IGR of the State through the various local and international activities in the various Value chain
- The project will encourage robust linkages among local experiences, business communities, research institutes, financial institutions as well as effective knowledge transfer and extension services.
EXPECTED OUTPUT
- The Project will create up to 5,000 direct and over 100,000 indirect job opportunities for women and youth in the State
- It will promote the State’s target of producing at least 40% of the food consumed by citizens of the State before the end of Year 2025.
- The project is expected to produce 360,000 trays of egg/annum, 80Tons of broiler meat , 52.92 tons of Pork , 86.69tons of Fish and 30tons of assorted vegetable/annum,
- Contribute to the Internally Generated Revenue of Lagos State.
EXPECTED IMPACT
- To solve the problem of youth unemployment through training in modern agricultural techniques and practices in order to create an army of future food producers.
- Reduction in overall rate of unemployment and crime rate in the State
- Promote Agribusiness amongst entrepreneurs and youth as they will get hands on training at the Centre especially along the value chains.
