Planning, Research and Statistics Department
The establishment of Planning, Research and Statistics Department in all Ministries of the State was further reinforced by the Civil Service (Re-organization) Decree No. 43 of 1988. It was created to serve as the ‘Brain Memory’ of the Ministry, particularly in the area of policy formulation and monitoring the implementation of projects /programmes. The Department performs other functions as assigned to it by the Honorable Commissioner and Permanent Secretary.
The Planning, Research and Statistics Department is headed by a Director. It has 3 Divisions namely;
- Planning and Budget
- Monitoring and Evaluation
- Research and Statistics.
Each Division is headed by a Head of Division.

Mission Statement
To coordinate the activities of the Ministry’s Technical departments and agencies, with a view to enhancing efficiency and effectiveness in service delivery.

Vision Statement
To be the think-tank of the Ministry with a central monitoring and coordinating role whose functions directly touch on all the operation departments and agencies.

Lagos in Nigeria's Economy
- Provision of planning support for activities of the Ministry. and coordinating the activities of other Departments.
- Coordination of budget preparation for the Ministry.
- To monitor and evaluate the implementation of the Ministry’s projects with a view to provide information to the Management for decision making.
- Library services, procurement of reading and other information materials such as journals and periodicals.
- Collation, collection and analysis of reports of the achievement of the Ministry.
- Storage and presentation of statistical information on all sectors of the Ministry.
- Coordinate the annual National/State Council on Agriculture.
- Measure and report on the impact and performance of the various activities of the Ministry.
